Barbara began her college career as an art major at Kent State University.  She quickly recognized that painting was a non-fulfilling career for her so she changed her focus.  Her professional life then went in the direction of nursing.  Barbara graduated as a Registered Nurse having received her Associates of Science in Nursing in 1972 from Rockland Community College, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1976 from Dominican College in New York where she majored in Psychiatric Nursing.

Barbara obtained her Masters in Addiction Counseling in 1995 from American College, and she worked at Westchester County Medical Center for five years, first on a Medical Unity, then on a Psychiatric Ward.  She transferred to the Drug Addiction and Alcoholism Center where she worked for three years before moving to Colorado in 1977.

The Pikes Peak Mental Health Center hired Barbara in 1977 to establish an out-patient substance abuse counseling program to serve rural Teller County.  Utilizing both her medical and psychiatric knowledge, Barbara realized that nearly every person with substance abuse problems had, at the root of the issue, untreated trauma.  Believing that she was limited in her ability to help people truly heal in her current setting, Barbara left after working there for five years.  In 1982 she started her private practice and established Journeys Counseling Center, Inc., in Woodland Park and Cripple Creek, CO where she is currently seeing clients.

After establishing her private practice, Barbara’s focus turned more fully to Trauma Recovery along with Substance Abuse.  She continued her education by taking dozens of training seminars, classes, and workshops with Trauma Recovery as her primary focus.  Barbara received certifications in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) in 1977; EMDR II (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in 1995; and Hypnosis and Regression Therapy in 2004.

In 2007 Barbara was asked to join Sacred Hoop Ministry as the Mental Health Director, and she is currently a member of their Board of Directors.  She continues her studies in PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and trauma recovery, and has recently received certification as a Brain Injury Therapist.  Barbara brings an integrative approach to trauma recovery for her clients, and works with individuals, couples, and families, by way of private sessions, and/or group therapy using whatever techniques are appropriate for that client in order to quickly move through, and come to resolution with whatever issue is blocking the balance within their lives. She also teaches classes and workshops on various relevant issues and topics in Woodland Park, and Cripple Creek, CO.

Dr. Meta Porter, MsD, CHT, is a pastoral counselor with certification in advanced pastoral psychology, a clinical hypnotist, a Reiki Master Teacher, a Certified CLEARÔ (Cellular Level Emotional Access and Release) Instructor, a Certified UYO (Understanding Yourself and Others), RCB (Redirecting Children’s Behavior), RCC (Redirecting for Cooperative Classrooms) Instructor, a member of the International Metaphysical Ministerial Association,  a Certified Medium, a Sound Therapist, and a retired elementary school teacher.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Central Florida, a Masters in Divinity, and a Doctorate in Metaphysics from the University of Metaphysics in California.

Dr. Porter has been involved with the Metaphysical field for over 45 years lecturing, teaching classes, and facilitating workshops around the country.  She has trained and worked extensively in the personal growth field, has studied with Native American elders and healers, has been anointed as a Healing Buddha, and brings a varied and eclectic background to each of her workshops and classes.

She has been a featured guest “Reader” at many Psychic Fairs, and preformed extensively as a platform Reader and Speaker at numerous churches.  Along with her intuitive and psychic readings, Dr. Porter is a well known Conscious Channeler who often conducts group channeling and regression sessions in addition to her scheduled workshops and sound meditations.

Dr. Porter, having learned through experience and study, the sacredness and healing power of sound, has utilized, among other items, the Singing Quartz Crystal Bowls in much of her healing work.  These Sacred Sounds work together with the body’s own vibrational patterns to release stored, trapped, congested, or misaligned energies held in the etheric and cellular portions of the body, and to penetrate and remove energetic karmic ties still remembered and carried by the soul.

Dr. Porter has also learned the intricacies of the psyche and heart, and how to break through the karmic bonds created through distorted perceptions and the unhealed heart.  Having learned how to work hand in hand with healing the things that stand in the way of reunion with the soul and spirit, she has developed a unique modality of integrating her various talents, and the Crystal Bowl Vibrations, to bring you to a greater depth of awareness, cleansing, and balance.  The healing simply comes for understanding what is there, shifting perception, and choosing to allow life to lead you to recreate the balance you’ve lost.

Dr. Porter is currently a member of Sacred Hoop Ministry and is their resident Sound Healer, Reiki Master Teacher, Pastoral Counselor, and Certified Parenting Instructor.  She holds monthly sound meditations, and uses 15 Singing Quartz Crystal Bowls as one of the many healing modalities she shares with her clients.

Dr. Porter is listed in “Who’s Who In American Education”, “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”, and is a published Poet featured in “Who’s Who In American Poets”.  Dr. Porter is also the author of “The Doughnut Journal, Filling In The wHole”, a healing journal style workbook, and “The Dolphin Journey”, a guided visualization and sound meditation recording, and one of her travel photos is due to be published in September, 2008.
