The
Shamanic Journey - What is it and why would you want to bring this ancient
practice into your life?
Shamanism is the oldest spiritual practice known to man and dates back
30-40,000 years. Indigenous tribes all over the world had someone in
their community who could contact an unseen world, by
altering their state of consciousness, where they communicated
with helping compassionate spirits.
This person was referred to as the "Shaman" and the
trip he or she took into non-ordinary reality is called the
"Journey."
Shaman:
The word comes from the Tungas tribe in Siberia to
describe a man or woman who accesses an unseen world, gathers information
from helping, compassionate spirits to help and bring healing to their community.
Because they lived in a world without technology, they relied on
the non-technological part of their brain, their relationship with the
natural world, spirits and being in harmony with nature to survive.
The tribe depended greatly on the Shaman.
The Journey:
This is what we call the trance like state that the Shaman
uses to travel to non-ordinary reality to meet with his or her helping,
compassionate spirits. Every
culture had their way of achieving this, from dancing ecstatically until
they enter this state of consciousness, to using plant medicines.
We use the sound of the drum, a rapid percussion sound, which helps
bridge the right and left hemispheres of the brain to achieve an alpha or
theta state that opens inner vision.
During
